SEASON 20/21 NEWSLETTER

Dear Racegoer,
The global COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on public attendance at sporting meetings across
the country. To help minimise the spread of the virus and its effect on the community, the Berrigan & District Race Club
has reluctantly decided to abandon our
* Members and Patrons Day on August 22nd 2020 and
* The Berrigan Gold Cup on October 31st 2020.
After what was a very successful 2019/20 season for our club, we are continuing to plan for even better seasons in the
future after a new normal has been established.
Our last Finley Autumn Cup produced a great days racing, well supported by our local communities. The Gold Cup saw
a near record crowd see a locally owned, bred, trained and ridden horse, the mighty “Marcello” win the Cup to produce a
truly memorable day at Berrigan.
Whilst it has been very disappointing to have abandoned our first two meetings of the year, the BDRC committee remain
hard at work planning, working and improving our existing facilities and upgrading our track and marquee grounds.
We have applied for a significant grant under the “Crown Reserve Improvement Program” to build an additional female
amenities block and upgrade some other critical infrastructure.
Your membership is very important for the ongoing viability of our club.
Membership cards have been printed and for race goers that were financial last year a new card is enclosed.
In view of the cancellation of this years August and October meetings
we are extending this year’s membership to include the 2021-2022 racing season.
We invite race club supporters whose membership may have lapsed please complete the following membership application.

If your receiving this membership application for the first time, we encourage you to join us as a member for 2020/21
season which will also include membership for 2021/22.
The Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 23rd September at the Royal Hotel, Berrigan
commencing at 7pm. We welcome your attendance to show your support for the club and the committee members who
contribute many voluntary hours towards the upkeep and presentation of the racecourse.
If you are interested in racing or helping to support a great Berrigan Club we would welcome your assistance as a
committee member or volunteer.
Please contact our secretary at [email protected] or mobile 0427668062.

Ongoing Course Improvements

During this past season the club has invested some $50,000 in works and equipment to maintain our infrastructure to the standard expected by patrons attending our facility. The upgrade of our underground sprinkler system together with our new mower/tractor has ensured all areas, both marquee and general surrounds, are well grassed and more easily maintained. The revamped mini Bar and Bar-B-Q Building is a welcome upgrade. More recently we completed our brand new Finishing Post which replaces the old brick construction that served us well over many decades but was in danger of collapsing.

Season 2016-2017 was successful l from both a racing and social point of view. We do struggle for attendance at our August and March meetings but will continue to promote these race days so as to maintain our district, together with the Jerilderie and Tocumwal clubs, as a viable racing centre. While our race dates are relatively few the Berrigan course is used most days by trainers/owners in preparing their horses for race days. Such activities provide economic benefits to our region.

Membership cards for season 2017-2018 are enclosed for existing members.

New Members – Your invitation to membership can be downloaded from our website and the committee would very much appreciate your support to show that our community wish to continue to make the race club and its social contribution to our country way of life a viable option.

A   PATRON membership is a special option that some might like to consider. PATRONS will be offered extra benefits at each meeting in the form of food and beverages in a special marquee with TV and all the trimmings. Make a note on your invoice if you wish to update to Patron and forward your cheque – membership or patron to PO Box 84 Berrigan 2712.

The club’s annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday 6th September at the Berrigan Sporties commencing at 7.30pm. Please come along to show your support for the club and for the committee members who contribute many voluntary hours towards the upkeep of the racecourse and facilities.
